Bastel charges from behind to capture Great Lakes Spring Am Scratch Division & Donner returns to competition and captures net division--

Ben Bastel, recent member of the Miami of Ohio golf squad, started Sunday's round 2 shots behind a trio of golfers, but quickly became the person to beat after shooting a 4 under front nine under pleasant conditions at Maumee Bay State Park. Birdies on 2, 5, 6, 7 and 18 gave Bastel a fine 69 to go with his 75 Saturday for a 144 total and a 2 shot win over the Metro's best player to date, Frank Dudek. Dudek shot a solid 2 under on the front nine, but a few bogies on the back, gave him his 2nd straight 73 and 146 total. Bowling Green golfer John Powers and last year's Spring Am runner-up (lost in play-off) finished third with a 147 total.
Scott Donner (143 total), who has been on and off the disabled list the last year, made his comeback pay-off by capturing the Net Division. His low net round of 68 on Saturday proved to be enough cushion as he faltered on the back nine Sunday, but was still able to finish 2 strokes up on Brad Phillips (145) and 3 on Doug Gust (146). George Bacon improved his Sunday score by 15 SHOTS to shoot a low net round of 66 and finished in a tie for fourth with Carlos Lopez, Stephen Snyder & Tim Kontak (147).
